BUILD YOUR OWN WOODEN GARDEN SHEDS

Many homeowners want a wooden garden shed for storage or use as a garden shed but are afraid they don’t have the skill necessary to build wooden garden sheds. This should not be the determining factor in deciding whether to have a garden storage shed in your backyard. Building a wooden garden shed is not that difficult and with a good set of proven garden shed plans the average homeowner is very capable of constructing a wooden garden shed.

THE BIGGEST HURDLE – For many homeowners not knowing what to do for the foundation or base for the wooden garden shed is the biggest obstacle to overcome. I admit that I had this quandary when I built my first wooden storage shed. I placed my first wooden storage shed on 4 x 4 cedar posts and built on up from there. Of course I did level the wooden timbers so the garden shed would be level but that was all I had to do. Most any homeowner is very capable of using this method and this should not be a reason to stop you from building a wooden storage shed.

NEXT BIGGEST HURDLE – For most homeowners who are hesitating about building their own wooden garden sheds the next biggest hurdle seems to be that they feel they do not have the carpentry skills to build their own storage shed. Again most homeowners are far more capable than they think they are in building garden sheds. Great carpentry skills are not required. With proven wooden garden shed plans the details are all laid out for you. There are instructions for cutting all of the wood and instructions on how to assemble the wood pieces. This is not difficult as you do not have to figure out any angles or distances. The proven wooden garden shed plans lay this all out for you.

THIRD BIGGEST HURDLE – I don’t know how to shingle! Shingling a wooden garden shed is not a difficult task at all. You can watch how to videos on how to properly shingle the roof of your garden storage shed and in a few minutes you will be ready to be an expert roofer as far as storage sheds go. Even if you don’t want to watch videos go to your local home improvement center and sign up for one of the many workshops they hold. You will be amazed at how many skills you can pick up by going to these. Also ask your friends and neighbors to show you. You will be surprised how much free advice and help there is all around you.

FOURTH BIGGEST HURDLE – I don’t have a truck or trailer to get all of the materials I need. That’s okay because you don’t need one. Simply take the materials list you get with proven wooden garden shed plans and take it to your local home improvement center or lumberyard and get a bid for all of your materials. Then ask them to deliver the materials you need. At the very end ask them for free delivery. Many times you can negotiate free delivery, but if not, usually the delivery charge is not all that expensive. Biggest thing is that you do not a truck or trailer to be able to build a wooden garden shed.

FIFTH BIGGEST HURDLE – I don’t have all of the tools I will need to build my own shed. You may not but you really don’t need that many tools to get the job done. Whatever tools you are missing simply borrow from a friend, neighbor, or family member. This is how most people get what they need if they don’t already own enough tools to build their own wooden garden sheds.

FINAL HURDLE – I need help to build my storage shed. Fine, if you feel like you would like to have help. Ask a friend, neighbor, or family member for help. Or, offer to help a neighbor build their wooden garden shed if they would in return help you build yours. This is done all of the time and a great way to make friends with your neighbor. Have a good barbeque afterword to celebrate your completed tasks and to admire your wooden garden sheds.

Outdoor Garden Shed Plans – Things You Should Know Before You Build One

There’s a spot at the bottom of the garden that has recently been looking a bit untidy and quite honestly has been a mess ever since we moved here. For that reason my wife came to the conclusion she needed to plant a garden there, just to spruce it up a little bit. Therefore she went and invested in a wheel barrow, some garden tools along with bags of soil and pots of all shapes and sizes. After, she tried to store it all in my garage, not a chance of that happening! looks like I may have to do a bit of shopping myself and invest in a good set of outdoor garden shed plans.

I never knew how much you needed to take into account when building such a structure. The one point I did not think much about was the strain upon the roof once it snowed. Do be careful here as snow really is deceptively heavy and a number of shed plans do not take this into consideration. Also remember a fairly flat roof pitch and wrong spec timber might possibly not be up to the job of supporting a roof full of snow.

Additionally, outdoor garden sheds make wonderful targets for intruders hoping to take stuff from, such as spades and mowers. So grab yourself a good quality thick door and reliable lock.

I would also advise that you grab a set of outdoor garden shed plans. A shed can easily fill up extremely fast, so whichever specifications of storage shed you have settled on, go one size bigger. Anytime your wife decides she no longer needs gardening you might not have any room for anything else.

Next, in the event it gets very warm where you are, you’ve got to make sure that your plans include roof ventilation as it will get hot inside there very quickly. And please, don’t skimp on money by using low priced wood that will quickly rot. Work with pressure treated wood and then seal and paint it, then it should last many years.

A backyard shed is good to have and worth the investment. So If you are going to be building it by yourself, make sure you get a good set of outdoor garden shed plans. These will definitely save you a lot of time and money without doubt.

Dear friend, Were you born with ten thumbs? Postponed a project because you ran out of ideas? Buying Outdoor Garden Shed Plans means, no experience is necessary. Whether you are looking for detailed do it yourself shed plans or anything made from wood, a good set of DIY plans will make the job run smoothly and within budget. mini micro scooters

Backyard Gazebos are Making a Comeback With Easy to Build Kits

Backyard gazebos are making a come back, like any other accessory they come in just about every imaginable size and purpose. You can get a gazebo kit designed to fit two people and tuck it into a backyard corner, or you can buy a gazebo kit that fits 20 and attaches to your deck or patio. Gazebo kits are available as traditional gazebo, spa gazebo, patio gazebo, and many other styles. Don’t feel like you have to sacrifice taste or quality when assembling a gazebo yourself. Just remember when adding a gazebo to your yard, is to place it in the most ideal location, the location that makes it the most friendly for you. Gazebos then, are, depending on the size, space and view from your garden, an excellent addition to any home.

Materials That Gazebo Kits Come In.

Gazebo kits are available in a wide variety of materials, including different types of woods, metals, and even polymers such as vinyl. Wood gazebos usually come in pine, cedar, and American redwood. Pine is the softest and turns yellow with age. Cedar, being very solid and turning gray with age, is the most common gazebo wood. American redwood is the hardest, darkest gazebo construction wood. You can also buy aluminum, wrought iron, or PVC vinyl gazebo kits. On the downside, these materials are heavier and more expensive than lumber, and they don’t blend as well with nature.

Assembling A Gazebo

Some gazebos are easier to erect than others these days, however, you can find many gazebo kits that come with easy to follow instructions. Get the family or friends involved and make a weekend out of it. Some kits will only take a few hours to erect and some may take the hole weekend.

Why not treat yourself to a backyard gazebo this summer. Add some value to your home.

How To Build A Backyard Shed Storage!

How To Build A Backyard Shed Storage!

There is nothing better than having enough storage space for all your “garage stuff”.  When we bought our house a few years ago, my wife checked out how much storage space there was in each room inside the house, wish she had done the same for my garage. There just isn’t enough space in the garage for all my “garage stuff”, so I have decided it’s time for me to build my own backyard shed storage.

First thing I had to do was decide what was the most important thing I wanted in this shed.  One, I want to be able to easily find my “stuff”.  In order to do this I needed enough space to organize everything. Second, I want to be able to easily access my “stuff” whenever I want it. What I came up with for access is to design the shed with doors at both ends of the storage shed.

Even though this added to my building expense and it took me longer to build, it was definetly worth the investment of time and extra money. It can be very frustrating to need a tool for something and not be able to find it.  With having door access at either end of the shed, it allows me to be able to get to what I need when I need it.

However, there was one obstacle with building the shed with doors at both ends.  It limited where I could locate the backyard storage shed.  Typically, people will put theirs up against the property line.  I didn’t have this option, so I just turned it sideways and it worked perfectly. Something to keep in mind when designing your backyard shed storage.

Another note of importance is to make sure that the ground is level where the shed will be located. You will also need some type of foundation. If it is a small shed, some people will just put it on concrete blocks.  If you do this, just make sure you have enough to support the shed and make sure the blocks are level.  If you are building a large storage shed, you may need a permanent foundation which will consist of piers installed below grade level.  Either way, make sure it is level.

Before starting, be sure to check with your local municipality to see if a building permit is required.

Building my own backyard shed storage was a great investment.  Not only did I save money by doing it myself, I have a place for all my “garage stuff”, I can keep it organized and I can find what I need when I need it.

I am the wife of a “Handy Man” and sometimes even his helper. We have saved so much money over the years because he was able to “fix it or build it” himself.

Being a handy man doesn’t come naturally for everyone, but you can still tackle some of these projects if you have a good set of plans and detailed instructions.

Build Your Own Greenhouse

Build Your Own Greenhouse

Now that you have made the decision to build your own greenhouse you need to get prepared.  There are a few important decisions to be made at this point. Location, style, and size are important things to think about when you decide to build your own greenhouse.

When you build your own greenhouse location is important. Your greenhouse needs to be build where the sun will shine on it all year round. Think about how the sun shines into your yard in the fall and winter months. Can you run water and heat to this location if you chose to? There should not be any trees close by to shade it or damage it if branches should fall.

This location should also have good drainage. You do not want to build where rain or melting snow run into. When you are working with your plants and watering them you want the water to run out of the greenhouse or soak up pretty quickly, not sit there and puddle at your feet.

Next choose the size. Now that you have a location, take a good look at this spot. How much room do you have to build your own greenhouse? Is the location large enough to build any size greenhouse or do you need a smaller greenhouse? Level out the area and take a couple quick measurements just to get an idea of the size of your backyard greenhouse.

When choosing the size keep in mind how many plants you are going to keep in your backyard greenhouse. Are you an avid gardener with a lot of plants or are you a hobby gardener with a few plants. If you are going to garden during the fall and winter you do not want to heat more space than needed.

Now choose what greenhouse style will best suit the location. The Victorian style greenhouse and the hoop greenhouse can be built any size you want. The hoop style is easier to build if you are going to build a large greenhouse. The lean to greenhouse is built onto the side of another structure. The lean to greenhouse is nice when built onto the side of your house if you want to heat or cool your greenhouse. The grow rack greenhouse of mini greenhouse works for any yard. This can be put on your patio or your deck.  Don’t let no yard stop you from Build your own backyard greenhouse

Are you considering a backyard greenhouse? Building your own backyard greenhouse is cost efficient and easy to do. Build your own greenhouse in no time. I did it and so can you!!

Build A Backyard Greenhouse

Have you decided to build a backyard greenhouse but don’t know type of backyard greenhouse you want to build. You need to consider the size of your yard and how many plants you are going to grow. Are you an avid gardener that grows a lot of plants or a hobby gardener that has a few prize plants to grow? Build a backyard greenhouse to suit your needs.

The four most common types of greenhouse are

victorian greenhouse,

hoop greenhouse or quonset greenhouse,

lean to greenhouse, and

mini greenhouse or grow rack greenhouse.

The Victorian greenhouse is a nice looking energy efficient greenhouse. The gable roof allows better heat and cooling efficiency. The straight up and down sides allow for easy movement without worrying about hitting your head on sloping sides.  Build the Victorian greenhouse in small or large yards. Choose the size that fits your needs.

The hoop style greenhouse or Quonset greenhouse is an easy and usually cheaper to build greenhouse.  Hoop style greenhouses are easy to maintain and allow for growing many plants of your choice. You can build the hoop greenhouse as long as your yard and needs permit. There is no limit.

The lean to greenhouse is an excellent option for a smaller yard or an indoor gardener. Build the lean to greenhouse onto the side of an existing building such as your house, shed, or garage. Build the lean to greenhouse onto the side of your house with a door into the greenhouse from your house and let your house do the heating and cooling.

The grow rack greenhouse is a mini greenhouse. The mini greenhouse is perfect for a small gardener or a gardener that has no yard. Don’t let no yard stop you from gardening. Place this mini greenhouse on your patio or deck and grow any plant you choose.

Regardless of what style backyard greenhouses are great for the devoted gardener and hobby gardener. Build a backyard greenhouse to grow year-round plants, shrubbery, specialty flowers, ornamentals, and so much more.

Are you considering a backyard greenhouse? Build a Backyard Greenhouse yourself. Building your own backyard greenhouse is cost efficient and easy to do. You can be on your way to building your own greenhouse in no time. I did it and so can you!!
